The OBEX, our waterproof case, has been put to the test many times, most notably by a third party company who performed the military testing. While these tests are valuable, one reviewer performed a test EXCEEDING the claims made by the manufacturers. The OBEX performed better than the competitors and exceeded his expectations. The reviewer is well known and does some interesting experiments with phones. You can check out his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCj34AOIMl_k1fF7hcBkD_dw
The Note 5 Has Arrived, With Issues?
With the recent release of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, there has been talk of “issues” with the S-Pen. The S-Pen can get stuck if it is inserted backwards into the device. The new Note has a spring release on the re-designed S-pen and when the pen is inserted the wrong direction the S-Pen can get caught on the spring action. Please note, however, that this cannot happen if you use the S-Pen correctly and this is indeed a warning in the manual that comes with the device.
Accidents happen though, right?
It is true that, just as your mother taught you as a kid, accidents do happen from time to time. In regards to the S-Pen however, this is a bit of stretch. The way in which the S-Pen is used, pointy end down, it feels very unnatural to put it in the wrong direction. Imagine putting a pencil into a pencil sharpener, now imagine putting that same pencil in eraser first, it would not feel or seem natural at all. The only way this may come into play is if the individual is in an extreme hurry, while ignoring that nagging feeling of “something being amiss”.
So who gets the blame when this accident inevitably happens to a few individuals? Samsung knew about the issue, as it was even in their manual, but if people use a product in a wrong way should we blame the company? I want to hear from you, what do you think Samsung should do, if anything? The information acquired for this article was based on an article covered by Android Central. Below is a list of options they felt Samsung had to diffuse the situation.
“So what should Samsung do?
We’d recommend a few things here:
- Samsung needs to work with its warranty provider and the carriers and their warranty providers on this. It’s sure to be a relatively small amount of devices, and there’s no reason to not do the right thing and help folks out. Charge $50 or $100 or whatever for the swap, but keep it reasonable.
- And Samsung needs to come out and do that publicly, and quickly.
- Update the TouchWiz software so that you get the warning about how to insert the stylus the very first time you pull it out. And make it one of those “Tap this box to never see this again” warnings.
- The Note 4 had a little warning if you tried to put its pen in backward. Is it possible to get that back?
- Then put that same warning in the box on one of those little pieces of paper we never read.
- Or maybe as a stencil on one of those plastic screen protectors you have to take off before you can use the phone.”
